“#UrbanSpacesPublicLife is an African photography challenge and mentorship programme delivered by the Market Photo Workshop, in partnership with CAPS and the University of Johannesburg (Faculty of Art, Design and Architecture). Participating photographers from across the continent used the power of their images to critically reflect on the significance and history of public spaces while simultaneously engaging in developing an African understanding and definition of what makes a public space.”
“This special issue of The Journal of Public Space on ‘Public Space and Placemaking in African Cities’ raises awareness and articulates the importance and value of urban public space in the context of the African continent. It includes 15 academic articles and 9 case studies from across the continent and aims to both showcase African scholars and contribute to the production of local knowledge and expertise on African Public Spaces.”
